Bringing DECKED's Rugged Brand to Life in Retail

DECKED came to us with a challenge: they needed retail displays that could showcase their truck bed storage systems in outdoor specialty stores nationwide. These weren't just any displays. Customers needed to actually touch and test the products to understand what made them special.

DECKED was venturing beyond their traditional automotive channels into specialty outdoor retail, a strategic move to introduce their storage solutions to a broader audience of outdoor enthusiasts. These customers might not yet own a DECKED drawer system or even a vehicle, but they share the same appreciation for quality gear organization.

The displays needed to be:

  • Functional and interactive for hands-on customer experience
  • Durable enough for daily retail use
  • Compact enough for tight retail spaces while still catching attention
  • Efficient to ship to hundreds of locations nationwide
  • Consistent in creating the same great brand experience everywhere

Design Development and Visualization

Our design process started by diving into DECKED's brand personality—their no-nonsense "GET YOUR SH*T TOGETHER" tagline says it all.

The early sketches shown below explore different display configurations, from compact setups for smaller retailers to full-scale displays showcasing DECKED's complete product line. Including human figures helped us ensure comfortable interaction at the right height for customers.

The result was a flexible modular system that retailers could adapt to their specific space while maintaining a consistent, hands-on brand experience.

Look & Feel

We chose materials that spoke the same language as DECKED's products—charcoal gray metal, tan accents, industrial blue highlights, and perforated patterns straight from their truck bed systems.

The key elements that brought it all together:

  • Perforated metal platforms reminiscent of truck beds
  • Interactive product displays inviting hands-on exploration
  • OSB wood end caps with screen-printed logos adding industrial warmth
  • DECKED's signature blue accents creating visual continuity
  • 16" digital monitor for product storytelling
  • QR codes linking to expanded resources and specification details
  • Brochure holders for information sharing

Bringing Concepts to Life

Before moving to prototyping, we created photorealistic renderings to show DECKED exactly how their displays would look and function. These detailed visualizations let us test different configurations and refine the customer experience before building anything physical.

The Production Process

Turning these designs into real displays meant rolling up our sleeves and working with actual materials that could handle the job.

Our metalworkers built frameworks that looked sharp but could also support heavy product loads day after day. The perforated metal platforms borrowed directly from DECKED's truck bed aesthetic—we kept those clean patterns while making sure they'd survive constant customer interaction. The OSB end caps added some workshop grit to balance all that precision metal, giving us a perfect surface for bold DECKED branding.

The Final Product

With production dialed in, it was time to get these displays working in the real world.

Scaling for Nationwide Impact

Today, these displays are working hard in specialty outdoor retailers across the country—from Outlander stores to car rack specialists—introducing new customers to DECKED's storage solutions. They allow customers to actually get their hands on the products and figure out how these containers could organize their gear for camping trips, fishing expeditions, and outdoor adventures.

The modular design proved its worth beyond retail too—DECKED used these displays as the foundation for their trade show presence, adapting the system for major industry events like SEMA and the NAFA Show.
